Expanded Metal — One Piece of Steel, No Joints to Fail

Raised and flattened diamond mesh in carbon steel, galvanized, stainless and aluminium — supplied as sheets, 

coils or cut-to-size panels, in the mesh and strand dimensions your drawing calls for.

Expanded metal is not assembled — it is the sheet. The plate is slit and then stretched, so the strands 

form one continuous piece of steel with no welds, no joints and no interweaving. There is nothing to 

come apart under load and no weld to inspect, which is why it holds up where welded mesh eventually

 fails at the bond. And because nothing is punched out and thrown away, you pay for the strand rather 

than for scrap — a real cost difference against perforated sheet at the same open area.

Two forms cover most of the demand. Raised (standard) mesh keeps the strands angled out of the plane: 

the diamond depth gives grip underfoot and stiffness across the span, which is what walkways, platforms 

and machine guards are specified in. Flattened mesh is pressure-rolled after expanding, bringing strands 

and bonds into a single flat plane — a smooth face, reduced overall thickness and lower stack height in 

the container. Neither is better in the abstract; the choice is decided by whether your application wants 

grip and stiffness, or a flat surface. Specify mesh by short way and long way mesh plus strand width and

 strand thickness, and we will confirm the open area that combination produces before you commit.
